INTERSECTIONS OF CONTEMPORARY ART

15.12.2025

From December 15 to 30, 2025, the Academy of Fine Art & Design at Northwest Normal University will host the international exhibition Intersections of Contemporary Expression, presenting a wide-ranging overview of contemporary artistic practices developed within an academic context. The exhibition takes place on the campus of Northwest Normal University and forms part of the university’s ongoing commitment to international exchange and research-oriented art education.

Intersections of Contemporary Expression focuses on pluralistic artistic languages and interdisciplinary exploration in contemporary art. The exhibition brings together works in photography, animation, performance art, digital art, and architecture, creating a dynamic platform for dialogue between different media, methodologies, and conceptual approaches. Through the juxtaposition of diverse artistic forms, the exhibition invites audiences to reflect on spiritual dimensions of contemporary life, cultural metaphors, and evolving modes of perception shaped by technology, history, and scientific knowledge.

As an academic and artistic project developed within the framework of cooperation between Chinese and European universities, the exhibition emphasizes research-based artistic practice and the role of art education in generating new ideas and critical perspectives. The participating works highlight how contemporary artists engage with everyday experience while remaining deeply connected to historical traditions and theoretical inquiry. This approach underscores the importance of artistic research as a bridge between creative practice and academic discourse.

The exhibition is organized by the Academy of Fine Art & Design, Northwest Normal University, and is realized with the participation of academic staff from the University of the Arts Poznań and Northwest Normal University. It stands as a tangible outcome of international academic collaboration in the fields of contemporary art, artistic research, and higher education.

The exhibition is held under the patronage of the Rector of Northwest Normal University, Prof. Wang ZhanRen, whose support reflects the university’s strong encouragement of cross-cultural dialogue and international cooperation in the arts.
